One of the better things about social media is how we can expose who some of these racist people are. Not all of them but without social media, a lot of racists would get away with more than they already do.
After racist texts from 2013 hit social media, Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley has been suspended from the football program according to KSL Sports.
Scalley sent a text with the n-word in them meant to go to some other coaches but allegedly accidentally sent it to a recruit.
He’s issued an apology stating how sorry he is and how he knows he’s disappointed others but he should be fired and not suspended.
People will think that since it was 7 years ago that a suspension is enough but there are two important things to take into account. The first is, an example needs to be set to let other coaches know that this won’t be accepted. The second thing is, just because this was 7 years ago doesn’t mean he’s only said the n-word once. People who do use that word usually say it all the time until they get caught.
He can apologize all he wants but he needs to be held accountable and a suspension where he gets to go back to his job after doesn’t teach him any lesson.
