The mother of Eric Garner, Gwen Carr spoke about the recent passed bill known as the “NY Anti-Chokehold bill” making it illegal for cops and police to use the hold trying to restrain someone, which has caused bodily harm and death in recent years.
As you remember, Gwen Carr’s son Eric Garner was choked to death by officers in 2014, with no federal charges brought against the officers, causing an uproar from all over the country of yet another black man being killed literally by the hands of law enforcement.
Gwen told TMZ,
“It was like Deja Vu, (I can’t breath) that’s my son echoing from the grave”
She further stated that this unfortunate death was the tipping point for the bill to be passed.
“I pushed for like 5 years to get this bill passed, and it went no where”
The fact of the matter is, we have unarmed black men being killed from law enforcement all over the country, and racist hiding behind the badge pretending to protect and serve. This bill should have been passed years ago. This is a start for certain, but there is still much work to do.
