The last time that Juan Francisco Estrada and Carlos Cuadras got in the ring together, sparks flew! There was high action from the opening bell and the two were highly competitive, in what seemed to be an equally matched, impossible to score fight. That changed in the 10th round, when Estrada knocked down Cuadras with a huge right. A knockdown that proved to be much needed, as Estrada won the fight by unanimous decision that night, with all three judges scoring the bout 114-113. Without the knockdown, it would have been a draw.
Carlos Cuadras, 39-3, would love to have that 10th round back. And tonight, he gets his opportunity to avenge that loss, when he and Juan Francisco Estrada face each other for a second time.
Estrada, who is 40-3, and currently on BSO’s top 10 pound for pound list, is looking to prove that the best man won that night.
Another commonality between Cuadras and Estrada: both men have suffered losses to Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez. Cuadras in 2016 and Estrada in 2012. Both men feel that a win tonight will put them in the position for a rematch with Chocolatito.
To make things more interesting, Chocolatito will also fight on tonight’s card, defending his WBA Super-Flyweight title against Israel Gonzales.
Should Estrada and Chocolatito both win tonight, a unification match is the reasonable next step. These are two guys who sit between 5-15 on the pound-for-pound list and will make one of the best fights that can be made, should they face each other again.
Will Estrada successfully defend his title tonight earning another shot at Chocolatito, or will Carlos Cuadras spoil his plans? Find out tonight on DAZN.
