Unlike 49 states, California is the one where constant action is taken place. CA Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a new bill with the help of Jay Z, Michael Rubin, Meek Mill, and a few others.
Reform Alliance is a criminal justice reform organization spearheaded by the three men looking to enact change and bring solutions to unfair sentences.
TMZ reported “Specifically, the new law limits adult probation sentences to a maximum of 1 year for misdemeanor, and 2 years for felony offenses. The theory is that will greatly reduce probation violations. REFORM campaigned hard for the bill, generating more than 3,000 emails to Newsom’s desk.”
As a black man, Meek Mill spoke on these certain issues in his 2019 documentary “Free Meek” where he was a victim once of the system. Meek Mill is someone who can vouch for people unjustly incriminated or given probation constraining them from opportunity.
“What is for certain is that in 2008, Williams faced multiple gun and drug charges. In 2009 Judge Brinkley, whose Philadelphia court would become a recurring setting in Williams’s legal saga, sentenced him to serve 11 to 23 months in county prison. Williams left prison after five months and was placed on house arrest for a brief period. He also was placed on probation for five years,” P.R Lockhart of Vox reported.
It’s a great day on the West Coast and hopefully, Meek Mill and Jay Z could work to get the same law signed in their hometown states back on the East Coast.
