The No. 6 Kansas City Jayhawks had their hands full last night after a 102-90 loss to No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs at the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off.
In the first half, Suggs set the tone catching an alley-oop pass from Joel Ayayi who finished with nine rebounds and 15 points. Suggs upside and ability to shoot off the dribble makes him dangerous when he’s in a rhythm.
Kansas guard Marcus Garrett 22 points weren’t enough to stop Suggs when the Jayhawks only trailed by one point in the second half with 10:19 on the clock. When the tempo of the game swung in Gonzaga’s favor, the Bulldogs went on a 22-7 run putting them up 96-78.
Throughout the entire game, Gonzaga out rebounded Kansas along with shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line. Forwards Drew Timme and Corey Krispert combined for 48 points in the season opener.
“With the victory, Gonzaga’s Mark Few picked up his 600th win in his 724th game, becoming the third-fastest coach to reach 600 wins in Division I history behind Adolph Rupp (704) and Jerry Tarkanian (720),” per ESPN.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play against Auburn at 11: a.m. EST today.
