For fans of bad professional teams, embracing the tank is a must if you “supposedly” want your team to jump-start their road back to relevance in their respective league.
We’ve seen numerous teams “tank” over the years and end up reaping the rewards from doing so. The Philadelphia 76ers accumulated a staggering number of top draft picks and now are Eastern Conference playoff regulars. The Cleveland Cavaliers got a number of #1 overall picks during the era of the 2010s, and in turn got Kyrie Irving, who became LeBron James’ eventual running mate en route to an NBA title.
However, the examples of tanking aren’t limited to the NBA. The Cincinnati Bengals got their franchise quarterback by simply sucking, and the Miami Dolphins got their quarterback of the future in Tua Tagovailoa by being the usual AFC East punching bag.
To be fair though, they did present a challenge for teams in the second half of the season.
However, just because fans want their teams to lose and get better draft picks, doesn’t mean players want to do so either. In fact, players would rather win obviously, so tanking isn’t even on their minds.
Take Jamal Adams for example, who escaped from the nightmare known as the New York Jets, and found his way onto a contender in Seattle.
He discussed the Jets’ situation, and why he thinks the Jets just don’t want to win.
