A few players in the 2021 NBA rookie class have used the month of January as a preview of what the future may hold for their respective franchises. Anthony Edwards dropped a career high 26 points against Portland, Tyrese Maxey scored the most points by a rookie in their starting debut since 1970, and now Lamelo Ball has become the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple double.
At 19 years old, Lamelo scored 22 points, dished 11 dimes, and grabbed 12 boards in a 113-105 victory over Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks. Equally as impressive, the triple double came as a reserve to Hornets’ starting guard Devonte’ Graham.
Friday, Lamelo was one assist shy of a triple double in the matchup against his brother Lonzo and the New Orleans Pelicans.
If the past two performances are any indication, Ball is on his way to NBA superstardom.
