As a culture, we love beef, especially funny beef. And there’s nothing funnier than two media personalities trading shots at one another.
Jared Goff was traded over the weekend to the Detroit Lions and Michael Silver, an NFL.com columnist, took a shot at Dallas Cowboys legend and FOX NFL analyst Troy Aikman for what he saw as excessive criticism over Goff’s play.
“Routinely trashed this season on FOX telecasts, specifically those with Troy Aikman as the lead analyst, Goff could reasonably assume that McVay’s words about his quarterback’s play in network production meetings were far from glowing.”
Aikman fired back in an article with Jimmy Traina of SI.com:
“Unlike Michael Silver, I strive to be fair and balanced and do not have an agenda when doing my job,” said Aikman. “The record will show that I have been a strong supporter of Jared Goff’s over the years. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff, he did not perform at his best in the games that I broadcasted this season and I’m confident Jared would be the first to agree.”
If there’s one thing to be said about Aikman he is critical of everyone including the team he won three Super Bowls with, the Dallas Cowboys. It is one of the reasons why I mute Cowboys games when he’s the on-air talent, but to say he was trashing Goff is a stretch. Goff let the New York Jets get their first win of the season off of him.
This one will be interesting to see who throws the next punch.
