Earlier in the off-season, there was a bit of news regarding Aaron Rodgers and his future with the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers has reportedly stated that he doesn’t want to a “lame duck quarterback” and wants a big time “assurance” that he’ll remain the starting quarterback in Green Bay beyond the 2021 season. This comes as a roster bonus situation unraveled, with the team deciding to not mess with Rodgers’ roster bonus for 2021, and pay it like they were scheduled to.
This is important because if the team didn’t pay it regularly on schedule and converted it into a signing bonus for 2021, it would’ve made Rodgers’ cap hit even more expensive in 2022 and 2023, making it difficult to move on from him in a financial sense. Basically what I’m saying is the team can move on from Rodgers after the 2021 season at a reasonable price.
Either way, the situation prompted trade rumors. Eventually, four teams were brought up as possible landing spots for the future hall of famer.
