“Sabrina Ionescu drilled a game-winning three-pointer with 0.4 seconds remaining to propel the New York Liberty to a 90-87 season-opening win over the visiting Indiana Fever at Barclays Center on Friday,” via Bleacher Report.
Fever Center Teaira McCowan made her presence felt down low with 16 rebounds and 22 points.
Ionescu secured a double-double dishing out 11 assists despite the Liberty 14 turnovers.
“Well she’s (Ionescu) an outstanding player and we kept her under wraps for three quarters of the game,” Fever coach Marianne Stanley told media members. “Then in the fourth quarter like you said she as soon as she made one shot it almost kind of ignited the rest of the quarter for her. She’s a terrific player.”
The Fever will get a shot at returning the favor on Sunday against the Liberty at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in their rematch.
