The Bodycam footage from an incident involving a Philadelphia Police Department was recently released, allegedly showing an officer deleting a suspect’s cell phone video of his arrest. The arrest happened in March when an officer tried to detain Jacob Giddings, a black man after running his plates and seeing that there is an active warrant for his arrest for an assault charge.
According to the police report … a Philly cop identified as Officer Burnett says he noticed a pickup truck idling for 10-15 minutes at a gas station back in March, so police ran the plates and it came back to Jacob Giddings.
In the footage, Giddings can be seen telling police that he is recording the incident on his phone before being removed from the car. His phone was dropped after a struggle with an officer whose last name is Bennett who can be seen holding the phone in the bodycam footage and seemingly deleting the video. Burnett then returns the phone to Giddings while he was sitting in the back of the cop car. Giddings can be seen asking Burnett if the video is still on his phone, to which Burnett replies, “I don’t know.”
