If you didn’t know, Simone Biles’s brother, Tevin Biles-Thomas was accused of a triple murder charge that steamed back from an altercation at a New Years’ Eve Party in 2018. Biles-Thomas today has been acquitted of said charges but that isn’t the only focus of today’s story.
The three men involved in the altercation, Delvante Johnson, 19; Toshaun Banks, 21; and Devaughn Gibson, 23, were killed in the alleged dispute.
After the verdict was read due to prosecutors not having enough sufficient evidence to convict him, one of the mothers of the victims stood up and rushed toward Biles-Thomas, yelling,
“You have to be f—— kidding me.” and then said, “I’m going to kill you.”
The woman was identified as Johnson’s mother by Joseph Patituce, one of Biles-Thomas’ defense attorneys.
Patituce said despite agreeing with the judge’s ruling and her attention to the evidence, but the judge understood the pain the families are going through after losing their loved ones.
Biles-Thomas has also lost his cousin, Devaughn Gibson, in the shooting as noted by his lawyer.
“I mean, it can’t be forgotten that Tevin not only has suffered through 2 1/2 years of defending himself but he also lost a loved one, too,” the attorney said.
Biles-Thomas was facing 15 charges prior to his acquittal, including murder, voluntary manslaughter, and felonious assault.
The case has made national headlines due to his relation to U.S. Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, a four-time Biles, who earned her seventh U.S. title last week, is expected to win more gold medals at next month’s Tokyo’s Olympics.
