Wonder why certain NFL franchises remain irrelevant? Well, I got the perfect story for you.
Tampa Bay Buccanneers QB Tom Brady went viral recently after he mentioned using a team passing on him in free agency as motivation for his Super Bowl-winning season. According to NFL circles, the player in question is alleged to be QB Derek Carr and the team of course is the Las Vegas Raiders.
Here is the quote from Brady who made an appearance on The Shop, LeBron James barbershop round-table format show on HBO.
“One of the teams, they weren’t interested at the very end. I was thinking, ‘You’re sticking with that motherf–ker?’” Brady said.
After there was initial speculation that he was throwing shade at other signal-callers Jimmy G or Mitch Trubisky, according to Pro Football Talk, the belief around the league is that Brady was talking about the Raiders and their QB Derek Carr.
“In league circles, there’s one team that hasn’t been deeply thrust into the conversation, but perhaps should be: The Raiders. Multiple people with deep connections to the NFL’s matrix have reached out in the past 24 hours to express a belief that the unnamed team was the Raiders. Which, obviously, would make Derek Carr the unnamed “motherf–ker.” Per PFT
Tom later on in the episode admitted that he never intended on playing with the team in question, but this shouldn’t be uncommon if you follow sports closely. Athletes do stuff like this all the time. Micheal Jordan would use anything as motivation. When your as successful as Tom Brady is, who has earned every award and accolade in the NFL, you need to find any source of motivation or doubt from peers to keep you competitive.
“When I look back I’m like, there’s no f–king way I would’ve went to that team,” Brady said. “But they said they didn’t want me. I know what that means, I know what that feels like. And I’m gonna go f–k you up because of that.”
If this rumor is true this is just another reason why franchises like the Raiders will continue to struggle due to boneheaded front office decisions and bad coaching.
Tom Terrific torched the Raiders last season for 369 yards and four touchdowns.
