Vin Diesel on How He Turned The Rock Into an Elite Actor

Vin Diesel, the staple behind the “Fast” movie franchise has been feuding with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for a while now. Diesel has been alleged to have called The Rock everything from “chicken s**t” or “candy a**” during the making of several “Fast and Furious” films and now Vin is owning up to said rumors.

In an interview with Men’s Health, Diesel who was a producer for a lot of the Fast films, said the “tough love” he gave The Rock was to try to get a great performance out of him is what led to the reported tension.

“It was a tough character to embody, the Hobbs character,” Diesel said. “My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be. As a producer to say, ‘Okay, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know.

Diesel seems to be forgetting that The Rock had cut his acting chops years prior to working on the Fast and the Furious films. He had already done movies like the “Gridiron Gang” and The Scorpian Kings”. Despite this, Diesel maintained that he needed to chime in to get the Hobbs performance he wanted out of The Rock. Diesel said,

“Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks. That’s something that I’m proud of, that aesthetic. That took a lot of work. We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”

We didn’t really understand or see what Diesel wanted out of this performance but clearly, it didn’t sit well with The Rock. After the seventh movie, The Rock left the fast series for a spinoff  “Hoobs and Shaw” with Jason Statham.

With two “Fast and Furious” movies left following the release of “F9,” there’s still a chance The Rock and Diesel could share the screen again.

After the release of “F9” there are two other movies left in the franchise so it remains to be seen whether these two will reunite.
