At this point, Patrick Mahomes is already one of the best NFL quarterbacks of all-time, in just three seasons. He’s posted historic numbers with the Chiefs, all while already winning a Super Bowl and MVP. Kansas City are heavy favorites to reach their third straight SB this year as well.
Now, a rare Patrick Mahomes rookie card has hit the market, and it just sold for a massive price. According to TMZ, PWCC Marketplace revealed that it was sold for $4.3 million, making it the most expensive football card in history.
This card is labeled as a ULTRA rare 2017 Panini National Treasures piece, that contains Mahomes’ signature and a cutout shield patch from one of his jerseys. It also has an 8.5 grade, which means it has almost a perfect condition listing. The previous record for a football card was $3.1 million on a Tom Brady rookie card, this past spring.
LJ’s Card Shop in Ohio have been revealed as the buyers of the Mahomes card, as they spoke with TMZ about it.
“We are continually hunting for unique cards that add to our collection in a meaningful way,” said a spokesperson. “The 2017 National Treasures NFL Shield Patrick Mahomes Rookie is truly a piece of art. We are honored to add this card to our collection.”
Mahomes even found out, as he took to Twitter. He was definitely surprised at the selling price, as he simply said “My goodness.”
