A 57-year-old man from Queens was filmed being engulfed by flames after a sidewalk explosion on Thursday.
‘I don’t remember too much. It was ‘BOOM!’ out of nowhere …. I wasn’t able to move and it hurt like hell. I lost some skin all over.’
Barry West, 57, is expected to recover fully from his injuries. Some of his injuries in which include having some of his skin burnt off. He reportedly feels lousy as reported by the Daily Mail.
West had no idea what happened to him when he was suddenly knocked to the ground and surrounded by flames.
‘The flames pushed me out of the fire itself,’ he recounted. ‘When did I realize what happened? After somebody told me, ‘Don’t move, stay right there,’ and called for help.’
West who is a father, was thankfully able to stumble out of the fireball looking stunned as to what had occurred. The flames shot so high into the sky they burned the second-story window above the store.
West is currently being treated at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York for second-degree burns.
NYPD responded to the call on Thursday evening. An investigation into what caused the explosion is ongoing, with no explanation so-far offered.
Glad he is okay and he can expect a nice hefty lawsuit to help with his medical bills and to pay for the mistake of ConEd.
