This summer has brought great news to college athletes, as they can finally get paid off their name and likeness. Athletes have since been trying to make collaborations with brands happen, and the NCAA football and basketball video games may be making their comebacks.
Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney a few years ago was initially against the idea of college athletes getting paid. He even said he’d step down as head coach if this happened. Now, he was finally asked about these comments and didn’t appear to keep that same energy.
According to Grace Raynor of The Athletic, Swinney, he is claiming that he’s never had a problem with name, image, and likeness, being owned to athletes, but is against “professionalizing athletics.”
“I’ve never had a problem with the name, image, and likeness. People hear what they want to hear.”
Swinney has made it known in the past that he supports Donald Trump as well. Many remember when he brought his Clemson championship team to the White House, and they were treated to only fast food. Nonetheless, even with these latest comments, recruits will still flock to commit to Clemson.
