Back in October 2019, Kanye West surprised everyone by putting out a gospel-inspired album, titled “Jesus Is King.” It went on to do very well, by debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and is currently gold in the US. This past spring, it even won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
Recently, TMZ caught up with a gospel legend, in Kirk Franklin. Franklin was asked about the genre, and also how Kanye’s been doing well in it. He was asked where West ranks in gospel artists, and he explained that anyone can participate in the genre. Franklin cited how it’s for any of God’s children.
Franklin went on to say that there shouldn’t be a Mt. Rushmore of gospel, when asked if West should go on there. He did give West his props in general though, by saying that West is one of the best artists of all-time.
