Being openly racist definitely comes with consequences, and that was the lesson that an off-duty cop in Tennessee had to realize. According to ABC 6, 22-year-old Tanner Holt in Knoxville, TX was knocked out at a wedding, after making racist comments about a Black man, who was at the same wedding as him.
This occurred at a wedding reception, as Holt continued to harass this Black man by saying “didn’t know they let Black people in the reception hall.” Despite these disgusting comments, the Black man in this situation kept telling Holt to stop, before finally throwing a punch, resulting in the knockout.
“(He) stated that he had asked Holt several times to stop talking to him about race, but Holt refused,” according to officers in the report filed. “(He) stated that he couldn’t take it anymore, and punched Holt in the face one time. Holt then fell to the ground.”
Holt was soon treated at a local hospital. Charges regarding both men didn’t end up being filed. Holt may have caused a violation at his police department, though.
“Knoxville Police Chief Eve Thomas requested Internal Affairs open an investigation into the incident on June 28 after the responding officers notified their supervisors of possible violations of the police department’s Code of Conduct Policy, police spokesperson Scott Erland told McClatchy News.”
Hopefully, Holt does lose his job soon. The way he acted towards that man was ridiculous and shouldn’t get away with it freely.
It appears according to some Holt has a history of being racist and the police department covered it up.
