Back in January, the Jaguars announced that Urban Meyer would become their new head coach. This is Meyer’s first time being a HC on the NFL level, as he’s only coached college football, and dominated there for over a decade, notably at Florida and Ohio State.
Now, there is reportedly some frustration by Meyer, according to FOX’s Jimmy Johnson. He explained that Meyer has had limited interactions with his players, due to COVID precautions.
“He’s a little frustrated right now because he’s spent so little time with the players,” Johnson said, to The Florida Times-Union. “He’s accustomed to being around the players all the time, and they weren’t able to do that because of COVID-19.”
Earlier this month, the Jags got hit with heavy fines for contact rules, regarding offseason practices. This included $200,000 for the team, $100,000 against Meyer, and the team is required to forfeit 2022 OTA practices.
Johnson added that he did speak with Meyer, and wants to check out some of the Jags’ training camp practices. He also believes that Meyer will do well in Jacksonville, after a recent 1-15 season.
“Urban’s very thorough. Urban has spent his due diligence getting ready for this job,” Johnson said. “He knew what he was getting into when he accepted the job. We had numerous conversations during the job process. And I think he’ll do a great job. He knows how important personnel is. He knows how to deal with people.”
