Details on Michigan Cops Drawing Guns and Handcuffing Black Real Estate Agent and His Client After Confusing Them For a Suspect

In Wyoming, Michigan, a Black real estate agent, Eric Brown recently went out to show a client, Roy Thorne, a home. Thorne was with his 15-year-old son at the time, but things went down quickly. They noticed that police started to surround the home, and soon started to make hand signals, according to NBC.

This was a two-story, two-garage, brick-covered home, as Brown and Thorne had known each other since they were teenagers. Brown figured that police were looking for a nearby suspect, and soon, additional officers arrived.

Thorne ended up telling his soon to get to a safe location, in order to avoid possible gunfire. Guns were drawn, and Brown believed that the cops were after them at that point.

Browns soon showed cops his business card, and explained how he was showing a home. He also explained the process of how they entered the home. These officers, of the Wyoming Police Department, ended up uncuffing Brown and Thorne, while apologizing. They had mistaken Brown’s Black Genesis for a squatter’s Black Mercedes that they were looking for.

In a statement to NBC affiliate WOOD of Grand Rapids, Capt. Timothy Pols said officers were responding to “a 911 call from a neighbor reporting that a house was being broken into.”

Hopefully, these officers are disciplined by the WPD soon. These men and a teen could’ve lost their lives for no reason at all.
