Ex-NFL RB Herschel Walker Files To Run For A US Senate Run In Georgia

Former Georgia and NFL running back Herschel Walker has filed to run for the US Senate in his home state of Georgia after being encouraged for months by his good friend and former President Donald Trump, who, if you remember, signed Walker to his UFL team the New York Generals.

If Trump continues to support Herschel and his campaign efforts, it is expected that he will be the frontrunner in the primary election for the Republican party. Hershel has made no bones about his conservative beliefs and his friendship with Trump, but many folks in the republican party are calling him running for the senate a nightmare.

Three Republican candidates — Georgia agriculture commissioner Gary Black, construction firm owner Kelvin King and former Trump national security official Latham Saddler — have already announced their campaigns.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell even urged former GA senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler to look at running again. The seat is currently held by Sen. Raphael Warnock, who beat Loeffler in a tightly contested Senate race.

“Walker’s entrance into Georgia’s chaotic GOP Senate primary is the nightmare scenario that Republicans have spent the entire cycle trying to avoid,” said Georgia Democratic Party spokesman Dan Gottlieb. “By the end of this long, divisive, and expensive intra-party fight, it’ll be clear that none of these candidates are focused on the issues that matter most to Georgians.”

After the UFL folded, Herschel and Trump were close, having Walker come over and visit the Trumps at their house in Greenwich, Connecticut. They even took a trip to Disney World together with their families and later appeared on his NBC reality show, ‘The Celebrity Appertience.’

It will likely take a lot for any Republican to de-seat the incumbent Sen. Ralphel Warnock, who will have more support from the state and ended last quarter with a $10.5 million war chest to defend his seat.
