Oh how the plot thickens.
Former USWNT star goalie Hope Solo made headlines early this week after she revealed during a podcast that she “saw” teammate Megan Rapinoe “almost bully” players into kneeling for the national anthem.
Solo added that it was divisive amongst the teammates who didn’t want to kneel.
“I’ve seen Megan Rapinoe almost bully players into kneeling because she really wants to stand up for something in her particular way, but it’s our right as Americans to do it in whatever way we’re comfortable with,” Solo said on “All of US: The U.S. Women’s Soccer Show.”
Well CIA Twitter did their investigating and found out that Solo’s story doesn’t quite add up.
Rapinoe began kneeling during Seattle Reign games in September of 2016 in reaction to Colin Kapernick’s protest during the same year. The USWNT terminated Solo’s contract in August 2016 a month before Rapinoe decided to kneel.
Solo was also Rapinoe’s teammate on the Reign at the time, but ended up leaving the team due to “personal reasons”.
Twitter is roasting Solo as her account of the situation made it sound like she was there to witness what she claimed, firsthand.
Rapinoe was also among the first white athletes to follow Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling protest against racism and discrimination.
This year USWNT had received criticism at the start of the Olympics when players knelt before their match against Sweden in which they lost 3-0. Their rocky start ended in a bronze medal.
I don’t get the need for Solo to lie on Rapione, but my guess is that there is some bad blood between her, Rapinoe, and the USWNT.
