The Los Angeles Lakers had a less than stellar season as they were not able to repeat as NBA Champions. LeBron James, who will be in his 20th season in the league seems to have pulled all the stops to win another championship. The Lakers made two of the biggest moves in free agency including trading Kyle Kuzma for Russell Westbrook and today added fellow ‘banana boat’ member Carmelo Anthony.
Twitter had a field day with the Lakers new look roster. Many of LeBron’s most ardent fans are of course happy about the moves while others are criticizing the king for stacking his team with two former all-star players and role players that are over the age of 30.
I’m happy for Carmelo and Russ, hopefully they can get rings in LA to solidify their careers. As for LeBron and the Lakers, these new singings doesn’t really change anything. At this point in LeBron’s career as hard as it is to believe, is the 1B to a younger Anthony Davis and without AD being healthy the addition of an old Melo and a ball-dominate bad decision making Westbrook could actually hurt them in the long run.
Other signings include Trevor Ariza, Kent Bazemore, Wayne Ellington and Dwight Howard. All whom have played for the Lakers.
To me it seems like an admission that LeBron knows his time as an elite player in the NBA is coming to an end if not being over already. I am interested to see how this team dynamic will work so we shall see.
