Underdog stories are always amazing to hear, in every aspect of life. Whether its in sports, entertainment, or other regular people in the world, overcoming adversity is always a beautiful thing. This was the case for UFC’s Cheyanne Buys, who defeated Gloria de Paula at UFC Vegas 33, last night.
Alas this isn’t as much of an underdog story as it is a testament to how UFC fighters are grossly underpaid.
Following the fight, Buys explained how she hasn’t had a lot of money, and that she needed to take out a loan to live in Vegas. She also added that her $50,000 fight bonus, took her bank account out of being in the negatives.
“I am so broke, I got a loan just so I could get a house here. I wanted to be known as the ‘Warrior Princess.’ I was shocked. She’s a gangster on the feet so I didn’t really expect that. “I am negative in my account right now. … I’ve been so broke my whole life because of this sport.”
