The Chicago hip-hop scene is definitely still mourning the loss of King Von, as he was shot and killed in Atlanta, in November. That came after an altercation with Quando Rondo’s crew outside of Monaco Hookah Lounge, in the downtown area.
Von continues to get love in the Chi, as a mural recently surfaced of him, in his O-Block neighborhood of the city. This area is also home to Chicago star rappers such as Chief Keef and Lil Durk. Now, police in the area are trying to get this mural wiped out.
Delilah Martinez of the Mural Movement Organization, is who got the mural up. Now, she is explaining how police believe don’t want it included in Chicago, due to Von’s previous gang ties to the Black Disciples Gang. He’s said to have shot and killed 17-year-old Gakirah Barnes.
“We might have to take down that King Von mural,” said Martinez on Instagram. And I’m gon’ tell y’all why it really actually bothers me. So, if you guys know my story or know the Mural Movement and how we got started, y’all know how important it is to do specific things like art in specific areas, especially Black and Brown communities. So, that’s how the Mural Movement started. We’re all about representation, beautifying communities in need, especially underserved communities that don’t have art or murals.”
As of now, the Von mural hasn’t been removed yet, but it may be on its way out soon. Flip the page for a closer look at it along with Martinez speaking. on this situation.
