Now that the college football season is in full swing with stadiums packed across the country, a D1 FCS head coach finds it hard to draw enough fans to his team’s home games.
Bruce Burnum, the head football coach at Portland State, made a bold statement in order to get fan support for his players. Burnum will promise free beer for any fan that shows up to the next home game.
“I’ve got a deal for you,” Barnum said, “Anybody who heard me your show… just says ‘I heard Barney on the BFT’ at the Barney Beer Garden and I’ll buy your beer. I’m not buying your ticket, but I’ll buy your beer. I’ve got to get people to see my kids. I like my team,”
Despite starting season 0-2, if you are a player for Portland State, you have to love seeing your coach willing to spend his own money in order to get his team a good crowd to play in front of. If there is one thing, I learned in college, broke college kids love free food and free alcohol.
