If someone tells you clearly that the reason they are not standing for the National Anthem is that the United States of America is not living up to the standards it sets for itself, how can you be against that? It is clear that black and brown people in this country have never been treated equally and fairly.
At the time Colin Kaepernick took his stance, the amount of, as Kap put it, “dead black bodies in the streets” from the hands of law enforcement was at an all-time.
People have always tried to manipulate and make Kaepernick’s stance something that it isn’t so that they can smear his name with the general public. It is a tactic that racists and MAGA often do. They know their base doesn’t want to do any research because they have much hate in their hearts.
Early on, Kap was asked why he was sitting out the National Anthem, and he gave a very clear and concise answer.
Anyone could watch the video above. It has been available since the day Kaepernick spoke on the matter. There is no reasonable person on God’s green earth who can disagree with what he is saying. It is a straightforward premise that America is not living up to its promises.
This is supposed to be the land of the free and home of the brave, but black and brown people have never been free. Many cowardly actions from people in power led to so many deaths and us not being able to generate the generational wealth that we were promised when the slaves were freed.
It isn’t shocking that Jon Gruden, who claims he doesn’t have a racist bone in his body, wanted Kaepernick cut immediately. It isn’t surprising that Bruce Allen was egging on right-wing media to make Kap look bad to the public.
There are more people like Gruden and Allen than people who want to listen and make this country better, which is really sad.
