Irv Gotti Upset That Ashanti is Re-Recording Her Albums Because He Owns All Her Masters and Publishing

Singer, songwriter, and actress Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas aka Ashanti revealed during a September 2021 interview with Revolt that she is re-recording her self-titled debut album as an independent artist — and record producer, and the CEO and co-founder of Murder Inc, Irv Gotti has issues with the “Foolish” singer’s decision.

Irv Gotti who owns all those great Ashanti Albums says that the musician is trying to fuck him out of his Masters. According to Irv Gotti in a comment under a video Angie Martinez dropped on Instagram, Ashanti can re-record her albums under the COVER laws but since she wants to take money out of his pockets, she’s doing otherwise.

“Just for super clarity. I own all those great Ashanti Albums Angie,” he commented under Martinez’s post. “I own the Masters. And I Produced all those great Ashanti Albums. So, I also own a good portion of the Publishing. What she is trying to do is re-record all those great records. And put them out on her label. She can do this under the COVER laws. But she is basically trying to f*ck me out of my Masters.”

Irv then wrote that Ashanti is hoping her “loyal fans” listen to her re-recorded LP instead of the original that he owns the masters to. He also said the situation was “f*cked up,” but he wants to hear what her versions will sound like to see if it “matches the magic we made.”

Ashanti in the September 2021 interview said:

“There’s a higher power, and I think that just being as a person and praying and putting your heart into things you get that energy back, and I think that’s so important. So, I’m just really, really happy.

Do you think Ashanti’s plans of re-recording her albums is the best decision she could ever make? The dude is really worried about Ashanti’s decision.
