Kevin Hart will play Gary Coleman’s character in ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ remake special. Coming December, ABC will air a 90-minute “Diff’rent Strokes” remake special–titled Live in Front of a Studio Audience, and Kevin will be in there.
According to The Jasmine Brand:
The beloved sitcom originally aired from 1978 to 1986, and one of the most memorable components of the show was Gary Coleman‘s character’s catchphrase: “Whatchu talkin’ ’bout, Willis?”
While on the subject of Gary Coleman‘s Diff’rent Strokes character (Arnold Jackson), it’s worth noting that Kevin Hartwill play the iconic role in the remake special! The news was announced yesterday (Thursday, Nov. 18th), and the revelation has reportedly been met with mixed reactions.
Matt Wayans will also be in the Diff’rent Strokes special and star as Willis Jackson (originally played by Todd Bridges) –meaning Damon Wayans and Kevin Hart will star as on-screen brothers.
John Lithgowand Ann Dowdwill respectively take on the roles of Mr. Drummond and Mrs. Garrett in the TV special, which will air on Dec. 7th.

In addition to this upcoming role, Kevin Hart is also gearing up for True Story to premiere on Netflix. Kevin Hart plays a major role in the upcoming drama miniseries, and he also serves as an executive producer. True Story will make its debut on Nov. 24th.
Social media had some varying reactions to the news. Some people think it is perfect casting, while others believe the casting is mocking Gary Coleman. I can see both sides of the equation, but we probably won’t know if it is good or bad until we see the episode.
So, people need to stay patient and see how Hart handles the role. Sadly Coleman passed away a years ago after falling down some steps in his Utah home. Some believe his wife, who he was estranged from, pushed him.
