Before actor and comedian Leonard Robinson became the man everyone had an irritating feeling about in season three of HBO’s Insecure, he was a regular talent for Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘N Out from 2005-2009.

Robinson spoke with BSO on the fifth and final season of Insecure in October which follows Issa and Molly played by Yvonne Orji. The two women deal with complicated relationships and life as modern Black successful women in a world of emotions and heartache.

Black representation is heavily highlighted in the series. As a Howard University graduate, Robinson wanted his character Taurean to be from his Alma mater since arriving in season three.

“I went to Howard and so when I read that he [Taurean] was from Morehouse, I was like, ‘any chance we can work our way around this,” Robinson asked in a joking matter. “As I got into the character, I was like ‘yeah that does feel like a Morehouse guy’, no shade to Morehouse. Actually a little shade towards Morehouse but I decided to have some fun with it.”

The fan favorites without question are Molly, Issa and Lawrence played by Jay Ellis. However, Taurean comes as a surprise who can offset the dynamic between character relationship potential. Two things Insecure fans are looking at could be if Molly and Taurean will get in a relationship, or if Taurean’s character gives more revelation than expected.

“I think fans of the show and Taurean will be pleased that a lot of the loose ends and questions that they may have had will get addressed. I was joking with one of the writers and said thank you for finally letting me smile because I think I smiled once in season three…and that was about it,” Robinson said. “You get to see some personality from Taurean…you might see him crack a joke.”

Robinson has always been consistent in his work and has bright opportunities ahead of him come 2022. Season five of Insecure is now streaming on HBO.
