The National Football League (NFL) has responded to former Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Jon Gruden’s lawsuit, referring to what the NFL did as “a Soviet-style character assassination” on him.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Jon Gruden has sued the NFL and its commissioner, Roger Goodell, over claims that Roger sought to destroy his career and reputation.
Jon Gruden’s lawsuit, which was filed on Thursday in Clark County District Court, states:
“Through a malicious and orchestrated campaign, the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell sought to destroy the career and reputation of Jon Gruden, the former head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders”.
“When their initial salvo did not result in Gruden’s firing or resignation, Defendants ratcheted up the pressure by intimating that further documents would become public if Gruden was not fired”.
“They followed through with this threat by leaking another batch of documents to the New York Times for an October 11, 2021 article. On October 7, 2021, Jon Gruden was the head coach of the Raiders on a 10-year, $100-million contract. By October 11, 2021, he had been forced to resign.”
Well, the NFL has responded to Jon’s lawsuit, and according to them, his allegations are “entirely meritless” and that the NFL will “vigorously” defend against Jon’s claims in court.
“The allegations are entirely meritless and the NFL will vigorously defend against these claims.”
The entire key to Gruden’s case is proving that the NFL leaked the emails to the media. That would mean someone within the NFL would have to be willing to snitch and possibly get on the stand to tell the story. I am not sure that is happening. I think Gruden is really just trying to make the NFL look bad and hope they settle the case so he can recoup some of the money he lost when he was forced to resign.
Who do you believe, Gruden or NFL?
