Pacers Secure Dominant 109-77 Win Over Bulls Behind Defense & Ball Movement

The Indiana Pacers improved to a 3-9 road record after the last three away games were losses by three points or more. Road games are critical for wins if the Pacers want to secure home court or a seed in the NBA Playoffs.

With Bulls center Nikola Vučević sidelined from COVID-19 and guard Alex Caruso’s left wrist contusion, the Pacers blew out the Chicago Bulls in a 109-77 victory on Monday night.

Defense was a disruptive tactic the Pacers used allocating 12 blocks and seven steals. The Bulls are currently 1.0 games behind the Brooklyn Nets for the No. 1 seed with a 12-6 record.

“Beating a team that’s high-powered and doing well is big for us,” Holiday said. “We’ve been trying to figure out how we can play a full 48 minutes. Our main goal coming in is to play together and play hard. Being able to do that tonight and win it the way we did, it’s good for our team to see that, when we play that way, it works.”

The Pacers held the Bulls to 21.4% 3-point shooting and outscored the Bulls in all four quarters. With DeMar DeRozan scoring 18 points and Zach Lavine 17 points, no other Bulls player scored in double figures to give the Bulls an offensive spark.

“We missed some good looks,” Bulls coach Billy Donovan said. “As the game started to get into double figures, we got very, very stagnant. The ball didn’t move well enough, and we didn’t generate enough for each other.”

Myles Turner is a defensive anchor who’s averaging 3.1 blocks per game this season and recorded four blocks. Domantas Sabonis poured in 21 points and 11 rebounds behind Malcolm Brogdon’s 16 points and seven assists. Caris LeVert scored 12 points and Justin Holiday finished the game with 14 points.

The Pacers will host LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday in their first of two regular season meetings.
