This is sad. High School football quarterback Robbie Roper has died at age 18, and according to TMZ Sports, he died after complications from surgery.
Robbie Roper’s family announced on Twitter. They said:
“We just wanted to update everyone on Robbie. Robbie just passed.” “He was the biggest joy to our family. We are proud of the young man he has become.” “He will be missed by his friends and family dearly.”
Here is what Roper’s Roswell High School football coach, Chris Prewett, had to say about his tragic death.
“Robbie fought hard,” Coach Prewett said, “and battled until the very end like he did everything else.”
RIP Robbie Roper.
Roper was a dual-threat QB who had 3,010 yards and 37 touchdowns this season — in one of those games, he had 447 yards and 6 TDs.
The 6’4″, 215 pound QB led Roswell High to a 10-3 winning record and was named Georgia’s Region 5 Class 7A Player Of The Year.
“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Roper family,” the Florida team said. Roper was also a great student and earned a 3.9 GPA.
There are a lot of unanswered questions here. I always tell people that there is no such thing as a “routine surgery.” A better way of phrasing that is some surgeries are done so often they have less risk than other surgeries. Nothing about surgery is routine.
There is a reason they always have you sign specific paperwork before you go into surgery.
It doesn’t matter if it is oral surgery or, in this case, a standard shoulder surgery. They are being very tight-lipped about the complications, but I can guarantee you there would be lawsuits. He was only 18-years-old with his whole life ahead of him, and now he is gone.
It is a double blow that it happened right near the holidays. I hope a full investigation occurs, so something like this never happens again.
