Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Calls Out LeBron For Comparing COVID-19 to the Flu and Common Cold

The Lakers have been one of the biggest disappointments in the NBA this season. They’ve lost 5 games in a row and currently stand at 16-18 and 7th in the West.

They have dealt with injuries which hasn’t given them no chance to create any chemistry. Right now, they have been dealing with covid issues which has depleted their roster.

Lebron isn’t really happy about it it seems and posted about it on his IG with the classic Spiderman meme using covid, the flu, and a cold. Not too many people were happy about it at all.

The biggest person that wasn’t happy was NBA HoF and Laker great, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Kareem issued a statement directly to LeBron via his website saying

“To directly address LeBron’s confusion, no one thinks colds and the flu aren’t serious. In the 2019-2020 flu season, 400,000 people were hospitalized and 22,000 people died. In 2020, 385,428 people died of COVID-19, while so far in 2021, 423,558 have died in the U.S., for a total of 808,986 deaths. Experts agree that COVID-19 is at least 10 times more lethal than the flu. As for the common cold, death is extremely rare.”

“LeBron James, if you’re concerned about the flu, then help promote the flu vaccination. In the 2019-2020 flu season, only 51.8% in the U.S. were vaccinated, well below the 70% that is the target. Worse, the vaccination rate is 20% lower among Blacks than whites and as a result, they have the highest hospitalization rate due to flu of any other group. This is due to vaccination hesitancy that your meme promotes.”

This isn’t the first time Kareem has called out LeBron this year. Earlier this season he criticized LeBron for dancing after hitting a clutch shot and said GOATs don’t dance.

Probably won’t be the last time, they definitely don’t see on the same page.
