Shocking just about everyone in the NFL world, the Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores today after the team won 8 of their last 9 games.
It was a huge shocker because the team wasn’t exactly set up for success and Flores made the most of what he was given. Especially given the injuries they dealt with.
Adding another layer to the whole mess, the Dolphins were the team everyone thought would trade for Deshaun Watson because it was reported that Watson would waive his no trade clause to play in Miami.
Only problem with that now is he wanted to play for Flores.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was asked if the pursuit of Watson played a role in Flores’ firing via Sports Illustrated and said
“First of all, let me be clear, it played no role in it at all. I have a lot of confidence in Tua and I think the next head coach will work with him or whoever else. But I have a lot of confidence in him. I watched him grow. He’s a fine young man, and he is our quarterback and will be dependent upon our new head coach but I have a lot of confidence in Tua.”
Tua seems to be the guy for Ross and the next coach will have to realize that day one.
