Things have gone from bad to worse for CB Damon Arnette.
Back in November, he was cut from the Raiders after a video of him threatening someone with a gun went viral. He was then given a shot on the Chiefs for a reserves/futures contract, but he won’t be playing for them either.
According to TMZ, Arnette was released only nine days after he was signed with the Chiefs. Let’s break down the five felonies he has been charged with and how much of a jail sentence each holds if he is convicted.
- Nevada law defines assault with a deadly weapon (ADW) as using a gun, knife or other lethal objects to strike a victim or to place a victim in fear of immediate bodily harm. ADW is prosecuted as a category B felony and punishable by a sentence of 1 to 6 years in state prison and a fine of up to $5000.00 (Arnette has been charged with two counts).
- The Nevada drug law prohibits the unlawful possession of certain narcotics and controlled substances. The law states that a “person shall not knowingly or intentionally possess a controlled substance, unless the substance was obtained directly from…a prescription.”
- First or second time possession of a Schedule I, II, III or IV controlled substance a Category E felony that carries 1 to 4 years in prison and up to $5000.00 in fines.
- Possession or use of marijuana in public is a criminal misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum fine of $600. As of October 1, 2021, those under the age of 21 who are convicted of possessing one ounce of less of marijuana are guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by community service.
- Carrying a concealed firearm or explosive substance without having a valid CCW permit is a category C felony in Nevada. The punishment includes: one to five (1 – 5) years in prison, and. up to $10,000 in fines (at the judge’s discretion)
At the most, Arnette could be looking at 21 years in jail and the least 4 years in prison, assuming he doesn’t accept a plea deal or is found innocent on all charges.
Arnette will certainly need to get his life together, and sadly I don’t see a future for him in the NFL.
