There is a reason everyone likes Joel Embiid (except Karl-Anthony Towns) and hates Ben Simmons.
Embiid can be chippy on the court, but in general, he works hard, he is trying to win a title and when his own fanbase gets out of line, he will put them in check. BSO reported on what happened to the fan who called Carmelo Anthony a “Little Boy” on the court, he has been banned indefinitely from the arena.
What you might not have heard is Carmelo was ready to beat up another fan for talking about his wife LaLa until Embiid stepped in.
“Some things were said,” Anthony said after the game. “Unacceptable. I’m cool with fans heckling, fans talking trash, cheering for their team, booing the other team, I’m all for that, but when you cross certain lines, as a man, you just, that’s what you’re going to see. That’s what you’re going to get, as you saw there.”
Shortly afterward, Anthony got into another altercation around the baseline and tunnel area near the Sixers’ bench. Joel Embiid broke up that altercation.
This time, a fan said something about Anthony’s ex-wife, La La Anthony.
“I’m not sure [what happened],” Embiid said. “I was just trying to calm the situation down because they kept going back and forth, and I really just wanted to go home and finish the game. That’s why I wanted to calm the situation down so we can just play and move on.”
I am all for trash-talking, but you know when you are saying racist things. You also should know families should be off-limits as well. You can’t expect Carmelo to keep his cool about being called a boy and people speaking about Honey Nut Cheerios and him allegedly having babies on his wife. That is crossing the lines and fans should know that.
Embiid was just trying to go home, so good for him calming everything down.
