Vanessa Bryant’s lawsuit against L.A. County is moving along, and they’re trying to pick the jury right now.
According to TMZ, though, they’re having a tough time with that because it’s L.A., and there are a lot of Kobe Bryant and Lakers fans that the attorneys for the county think will be biased.
The attorneys submitted a list of questions they want to ask potential jurors … and it includes several Kobe-related questions presumably designed to weed out any super fans who have immense Kobe/Lakers bias.
Some of the proposed Bryant questions include: “How would you describe your feelings toward Kobe Bryant?” and “How would you describe your feelings toward the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team?”
If the answers showed a juror would be less than likely to objectively look at the evidence in the case … the lawyers would use it as a basis for striking that person from the jury pool.Other questions the lawyers are hoping to ask also include ones that help show if a person has a particular bias against law enforcement, such as “Have you ever had had a negative experience with a Los Angeles County Sheriff or the LA County Sheriff’s Department?”
This whole thing is pretty sick because it was utterly wrong what first responders took pics of Kobe’s dead body and showed them around, but instead of admitting fault, they want to drag her through court.
They will be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t a Kobe fan in L.A. County. The best they will be able to do is find someone who doesn’t watch basketball on a regular basis, but Kobe was a name that transcended normal fandom.
The trial is set to start on February 22, and it is sad the county is actually still fighting this.
