Yes, social media is toxic and addictive and I believe every parent should make conscious efforts in ensuring their kids stay off the socials until they are 18 and developed mentally enough to deal with the toxicity on social media.
Mom, Lorna, threw a challenge to her son Sivert when he was 12 that if he stayed off social media until he was 18, she’d reward him with a hefty amount of cash and she delivered on her promise since Sivert stayed off social media for 6 years.
According to the Daily Mail, Sivert Klefsaas turned 18 on February 9 and her mom rewarded him with $1,800 as promised.

When Sivert Klefsaas was 12, his mother, Lorna, issued a challenge: If he stayed off all social media until he was 18 years old, she’d give him a hefty sum of cash.
On February 19, Sivert met completed the ’18 for 18 challenge’ — and his mom held up her end of the bargain.
‘He did really dig in,’ Lorna told KARE11. ‘He was like “I’m not breaking this.” I’m proud of him, because there were a few times where it was harder. I knew for sure he was going to make it.’
Lorna got the idea for the reward system after hearing about another mother who did a ’16 for 16 challenge’ with her kid.
She’d seen how social media had negatively impacted her three older children, who got ‘so engrossed’ and would experience negative moods and issue with their friendships.
She said it was ‘kind of a depressant,’ and even took a phone away from one daughter when she was 16.
Social media isn’t all that bad but parents should try and protect their kids from these platforms until they turn a certain age and that’s what Lorna did. The young man has gotten himself a cool $1,800 for staying off toxicity.
