The Deshaun Watson saga is heating up once again.
With multiple teams around the NFL expected to look into quarterback upgrades, Watson’s name has been brought to the forefront as an option once again.
Watson submitted a trade request just over a year ago, in light of the dysfunction that existed within the Houston Texans’ organization. The only hiccup that’s left to work through — aside from the obvious return negotiations Houston will lead — is Watson’s ongoing legal troubles.
Watson still has yet to be criminally charged for the multiple claims of sexual misconduct he’s been hit with. It’s unclear when the case will be resolved, whether it’s by mass settlements, Watson being cleared of wrongdoing, Watson being criminally charged, or courts finding Watson at fault for the detailed instances of misconduct in the civil suit he’s currently fighting.
But despite the complicated legal process Watson has yet to conclude, multiple teams, are reportedly still interested in trading for the superstar quarterback. Well, only if he isn’t criminally charged as a result of the claims against him according to Mike Florio of NBC Sports.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, multiple teams are indeed willing to make the deal, as long as the criminal situation is resolved. Last year, the Dolphins insisted on settlement of all cases before a trade would be finalized. The Panthers were willing to make the deal regardless of the civil (or criminal) cases, but Watson didn’t want to waive his no-trade clause for a trade to Carolina.

This will all come down to if he is charged with a felony, a misdemeanor or nothing at all. Two of those three things are good for Watson and would lead to an immediate trade, if he is charged with a felony then things could get tricky. We are hearing upwards of 8 teams could be in the running for Watson’s services at the moment his criminal situation is taken care of.
