Kevin Porter Jr. appeared in WNBA star Kysre Gondrezick’s live video on Instagram and now, people are asking if their relationship is hookup or just friends?
Kevin Porter Jr. and WNBA star Kysre Gondrezick were close during the live Instagram session and from the look of things they seem to be spending more time together. If you are unfamiliar with Kysre Gondrezick here is some background.
In a stunning move, the Indiana Fever announced on Tuesday that they have waived 2021 No. 4 overall pick Kysre Gondrezick.
This move comes after just one season of Gondrezick’s career. The young guard played in 19 games for Indiana during her rookie season, posting averages of 1.9 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game. The West Virginia University product was an effective shooter and aggressive defender early in the season, but her accuracy and minutes waned as her rookie campaign progressed.
Gondrezick didn’t play in the second half of the Fever’s 2021 season. Recently, she shared that she needed to step away from the team to focus on her mental health and get support for her well-being.
“My mental health was at a high risk as I was under a lot of stress coping with my own personal silence of traumas,” Gondrezick shared in a statement.
Beyond Indiana’s decision-making in the past, which deserves criticism, they had to have a reason to move on from Gondrezick. The move(s) they make in response to this waiver could remove some of the shock value.
She went on to sign with the Chicago Sky.
As far as Porter Jr. he has had his ups and downs as well.
Kevin Porter Jr. is one of the most fascinating and mercurial young players in the entire league. His time with the Houston Rockets has been nothing short of an early career redemption tour, validating high expectations of talent and overcoming adversity to shine. However, Porter may be at risk of failing (or perhaps being failed) in his second chance if the Rockets don’t build a support system for him, on and off the court.
Porter’s position is a precarious one in a league that largely reserves second chances to first-ballot Hall of Famers and the owner’s box. The fact that Kevin Porter Jr. got a second chance in Houston is already an outlier. This time last year, most analysts were certain he was going to be out of the league, the victim of his own off-court issues. Porter started the 2020-21 season inactive on the Cleveland Cavaliers’ roster due to a felony weapons charge stemming from the discovery of a handgun found after the first-year swingman crashed the car he was driving. The charges were eventually dropped after it was revealed that the gun belonged to Porter’s mother, who has a concealed carry license and failed to inform her son that the gun was in the car.
