The Daily Mail reports that a 36-year-old Chicago mother of four Melissa Silva was one of the three women shot dead “after attackers raided the locale, which was located in the municipality of Zinapecuaro.”
The incident happened at a clandestine cockfighting venue in the western Mexico state of Michoacán on Sunday. Her 16-year-old sister named Arleth Silva is in the hospital battling for her life following “gunshot wounds to one of her lungs and each of her legs”.

She suffered a gunshot wound in one of her lungs and was struck once in reach league, her sister Yalitza Silva told the network.
‘And they told my mom that she was going to need eight screws in the spine,’ she said.
Yalitza Silva said that her sisters were vacationing with their mother in the family’s home state, despite a U.S. Department of State travel advisory for Michoacán due to crime and kidnapping.
‘I did not imagine that it was going to be one of my sisters,’ Yalitza Silva said. ‘Melissa couldn’t, I mean, she was too strong.’
Their mother was in their hotel when she heard the gun shots and rushed to the venue, fainting when she discovered Melissa Silva’s lifeless body.
‘She found (Melissa) dead in the middle of the ring and the other one (Arleth) about three feet fighting for her life,’ said Alex Silva, who traveled to Michoacán to assist with the arrangement to repatriate the body of his slain sister and wounded sibling.
You have to be careful anywhere these days because violence can breakout anywhere. The cockfights aren’t all glamourous like you see on Seinfeld. I feel bad for her four kids because this is such a senseless way to die and the killers should be ashamed of themselves, who murders women when raiding a cockfight?
