Kevin Durant seems to be a no-nonsense player, and he proved it during the Brooklyn Nets-Dallas Mavericks game on Wednesday night. Kevin told a demanding courtside fan to shut the f*** up after the fan shouted, “Durant, you gotta take this game over!” at him.
Here is what happened between Kevin Durant and the fan on Wednesday night via Larry Brown Sports:
Kevin Durant had an interaction with a fan sitting courtside for Wednesday night’s Brooklyn Nets-Dallas Mavericks game that went viral. Durant scored 23 points with 6 rebounds and 10 assists in Brooklyn’s 113-111 loss to the Mavs. He made a big 3-pointer with 10.6 seconds left to give his Nets a 1-point lead. But Spencer Dinwiddie won the game with a 3-pointer with a second left.
Late in the game, a fan sitting courtside in Brooklyn had a message for Durant.
“Durant, you gotta take this game over!” the fan said.
“You gotta shut the f— up and sit down,” Durant replied.
The fan seemed to follow Durant’s instructions. You have to love the way the referee took a peek over to see whether it was a situation that merited some sort of intervention. Luckily the official held off calling anything.
I am generally on the player’s side with fan interaction because the fan usually is saying some stupid stuff or being disrespectful, but asking a player to take over the game shouldn’t elicit the type of response KD gave the fan. I would have to politely tell KD not to speak to me in that manner, or he would have to see me after that game.
Respect is a two-way street. If players want fans to respect them and not curse at them, that respect must be mutual. KD is too good to be this salty all the time. He indeed took over the game, but they still lost when the Mavs hit a game-winner, so there is a little karma there.
