Twitter folks are bashing Syracuse police over a viral video of some of their officers arresting and manhandling a kid who was accused of stealing from a store on the city’s northside. In the viral clip, a man could be heard confronting the police to let the kid be yet they never listened to him as they forced the kid into the Police vehicle.
Syracuse Police Department released a statement on their official Facebook concerning the issue and said officers’ actions and bodycams are being reviewed.
The statement reads;
We are aware of a video being shared on social media involving several of our Officers and juveniles accused of stealing from a store on the City’s northside. The incident, including the Officers’ actions and body-worn cameras, are being reviewed. There is some misinformation involving this case. The juvenile suspected of larceny was not placed in handcuffs. He was placed in the rear of a patrol unit where he was directly brought home. Officers met with the child’s father and no charges were filed.
Shoutout to the black man taking the cops to task for manhandling a child stealing some chips and offering to pay for them. That black man needs to watch his back because cops are very vindictive and could make him their next target. If you wonder why black men have such hatred and anger towards cops this is it. They could have just talked to the kid about stealing gave him some positive words of encouragement that could have possibly sent him on a better path. Instead, they treated him like an adult, and where he was scared for his life, and rightfully so.
This is sickening and disgusting, but not surprising. The police statement doesn’t even offer an apology for their heinous actions.
