Thicc is the word of the day if you’re an MCU fan. The culture has been waiting for this trailer for a long time and it did not disappoint. She-Hulk: Attorney At Law was given a full-blown trailer today with full looks at Tatiana Maslany as the titular character, plus the return of Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky, also known as Abomination. We were also given quick glimpses of villains Frogman and Titania, who will be played by comedy genius Jameela Jamil. On the whole, the show looks absolutely outstanding.
The show features Jennifer Walters, cousin of Bruce Banner, learning to balance her life as an attorney with her newfound… problem. That problem? She’s related to Bruce Banner and that leads to her receiving a blood transfusion from him which then turns her into a Hulk, as well. Now her law firm decides to capitalize on this by creating a superhero defense wing within their firm and appointing Walters to head it up. Her first client is none other than Emil Blonsky. The show also features Benedict Wong returning as The Sorcerer Supreme Wong.
Just based on the trailer, the writing for the show appears to be loose and very modern. There’s even a scene with Jennifer Walters as She-Hulk literally picks up a man and takes him to bed in a reversal of what we normally see. The show also appears to be very meta, taking shots as the tropes contained within superhero books and shows, such as the fact that all superheroes are either rich, narcissistic, or adult orphans. The fact that Dana Schwartz was one of the writers for the show along with Melissa Hunter, Zeb Wells, Kara Brown, and Cody Ziglar means that we’re going to see relevant and edgy humor, and that was definitely on display in this trailer.
She-Hulk has long been a property that Marvel fans have wanted to see translated and brought to life. The property looks like it’s in great hands and already has fans buzzing on the internet. Marvel has had some really great shows and films in Phase 4 and they’ve had some that seemed great but maybe struggled to stick the landing. She-Hulk appears to be in the former category based on what we’ve seen, but we’ll know on August 17th when the first episodes drop.
