The ex-wife of slain NBA star Lorenzen Wright, Sherra Wright, has been denied parole after helping to plot his murder. According to the report, the parole board denied her parole due to the seriousness of the crime.
TPS has more;
After serving less than four years of her 30-year sentence Lorenzen’s ex-wife Sherra Wright made a bid for her freedom earlier this month to the parole board. Due to the seriousness of the crime, the board of parole independently reviewed Wright’s case and unanimously voted against her request for parole.
Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich issued the following statement on the decision:
“Today’s denial of early parole for Sherra Wright was welcome news to the family and friends of Lorenzen Wright, and to all those who believe that criminal defendants should be held accountable for their crimes. To have released this defendant after she has served less than five years of a 30-year sentence for murder conspiracy would have diminished respect for the law by declaring a policy of tolerance for violent criminal behavior. This case illustrates why I support Truth in Sentencing.”
Among those speaking against her early release was Lorenzen Wright’s mother, Deborah Marion. She said Sherra Wright should serve the full 30 years of her sentence.
Here is what to know about Lorenzen Wright’s death which was orchestrated by his ex-wife Sherra Wright.
Lorenzen Wright’s decomposing body was found riddled with bullet wounds in a swampy field in east Memphis on July 28, 2010. The 34-year-old father of six had been missing for days before his body was discovered.
Sherra Wright was rumored to always be a suspect, but that didn’t stop her from going to the funeral and crying hysterically at his demise.
Billy Ray Turner and Sherra Wright were indicted on first-degree murder charges in December 2017, more than seven years after the killing. She has already pled guilty to the facilitation of murder in 2019.
Turner claimed he was innocent and went to trial. He was convicted in March of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Wright received $1 million from her ex-husband’s life insurance policy.
