According to reports, there could be a disaster in the Brooklyn Nets as Kevin Durant “hasn’t spoken with the team’s front office since being swept in the first round of the 2022 NBA playoffs.” Durant may be out of the Brooklyn Nets soon.
According to TPS;
What makes this news even worse is this comes against the backdrop of Kyrie Irving potentially hitting free agency. Irving can opt out of his four-year, $136.5 million contract this summer.
A star player going a month without speaking with team officials doesn’t seem like a tremendous cause for concern, but the team faced a lot of controversy this past season that led to them being swept out of the playoffs.
After assembling a superstar trio of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden 16 months ago, many expected the Nets to be the NBA’s next dynasty.
A disgruntled Harden would be traded to the 76ers in exchange for Ben Simmons, who hasn’t played in an NBA game in over a year and just had back surgery.
Irving could really flip things upside down for the Nets if he walks. Not only would Brooklyn not have cap space, but they also don’t have any good draft assets for the foreseeable future due to the Harden trade with Houston.
When you are a free agent you can do whatever you want and KD has had some success with the Nets. It is still my opinion that his best move would have been to stay with the Warriors. People got in his head about it being Steph’s team, but who cares if you end up with 5 rings? You win that much all people are going to call you is one of the best basketball players in the history of the NBA. KD has a great legacy but it could have been better in my opinion.
