Stephen A. Smith has gone hard on Irving Kyrie for the 105th time and this time around, it’s about his contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets. Stephen didn’t mince words as he labeled Irving as delusional.
According to Side Action;
It’s been revealed that Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets had hit a series “impasse” in their contract talks. This is a situation that many were anticipating as Kyrie wants to get as much guaranteed money as possible, while the Nets would rather go with a short deal because they can’t count on Kyrie to behave long term. Kyrie has proven to be pretty unreliable and you can’t blame the Nets for wanting nothing to do with him as they try to build their future.
This news broke in the middle of First Take this morning, and Stephen A. Smith went nuts.
“This is a guy who missed 127 games over the last three seasons and he thinks he deserves a four-year extension on top of the $36 million he’s expected to make this upcoming season,” Smith began. “I mean what nerve. What gall?”
The Nets and Kyrie are currently at an impasse.
Kyrie Irving is an extremely gifted basketball player.
There are probably not ten players in the world that have his skill set, but skills aren’t the only thing that matter when playing on a team. For whatever reason, since he hit that three over Steph in the NBA Finals, wherever he goes, the teams seem to get worse, not better. Maybe he should have never left LeBron, but the NETS are extremely hesitant as they should be to give him a long-term contract extension.
According to Shams, other teams who are desperate to get to the NBA Finals are more willing to take the risk.
Nearly two months later, it appears both sides have serious work to do in order to find a resolution that brings Irving back to Brooklyn and his co-star in Durant, who is under contract with the Nets through 2025-26. Several teams across the league have kept tabs on the situation, wondering about the future of Irving and Brooklyn.
