Will Smith’s King Richard co-stars have given some insight about his wellbeing and where he’s at emotionally after he slapped Chris Rock to please his wife Jada Pinkett at the 2022 Oscars. Rock joking about Jada’s bald head didn’t sit well with her and she had to signal Will to reply to him with violence.
According to CinemaBlend;
Two of his King Richard co-stars have reached out since, and they’ve provided an update on where the actor is emotionally.
Saniyya Sidney and Mikayla Bartholomew played Venus Williams and Tunde Price, respectively, in last year’s King Richard. Will Smith played their on-screen dad, Richard Williams and, judging by their interactions during the press tour last year, the stars became close behind the scenes. In the aftermath of the slap, that relationship continues, as the two revealed during their appearance at the BET Awards that they’ve spoken with Smith. And according to Bartholomew, the Oscar winner is in good spirits:
“Every time I talk to him, he always says everything is in divine splendor, ya know, so he’s good. It’s always good to chat with him.”
Months before the actress shared those sentiments with ET, it was said that the A-lister was on a “spiritual journey” of sorts. The star reportedly headed to India in April in order to seek out “yoga and meditation.” This was shortly after the actor issued a public apology for the incident. Though it’s unclear as to whether the two have formally reconciled, the I Am Legend star has apparently found some sort of peace, based on these new comments.
Okay, now Will Smith is doing well but how about the receiver of the slap, Chris Rock? Who’s checking up on him to know his wellbeing after the Oscars slap?
Smith is trying to get away from the toxicity of Jada.
Will touched down at a private airport in Mumbai, India, and it was clear the paparazzi in India knew he was coming. They shouted out his name as he arrived at his hotel, and he was more than happy to give the paps, along with some serious fans, a wave and a smile.
No idea why he’s there — whether it’s business or pleasure, but he didn’t look the worse for wear … posing with someone who looks like the pilot at the hotel.
He even stopped for a few fans who desperately wanted a selfie with the actor.
Will hasn’t said anything publicly since his apology after slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars … a slap that earned him a 10-year suspension from Academy events, including the Oscars.
Several of his movie projects have been put on ice in the wake of the slap. It’s unclear if they’ll be canceled altogether or whether the movie companies are just waiting for all the hubbub to die down before things get reset.
